# How does fame work in My Legacy? Why scoring goals doesn't make you famous

> Fame in My Legacy deliberately ignores your goals. It comes from transfers, trophies, global awards and what you own — and a private jet literally protects your star status when you drop a league.

:::answer
Fame in My Legacy — `mediaPopularity`, 0–100 — **does not move for goals, hat-tricks or man-of-the-match awards.** That is deliberate. Fame comes from **transfers, major team trophies, global individual awards, and luxury lifestyle**. Your league also imposes a hard **fame cap**: the Premier League caps at 99, the Turkish Süper Lig at 75, the Turkish second division at 60. And **Media Resilience** — earned by owning a jet, a yacht or a villa, and by winning big awards — is literal fame armour that determines how much star power you keep when you move down.
:::

This system surprises people, so it is worth being blunt about the design decision at the centre of it: **you can score forty goals a season and gain zero fame.** Fame is not performance. Fame is profile.

## The five fame tiers

| Range | Tier | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 0–20 | Unknown Prospect | Youth and amateur football |
| 21–40 | Lower-League Regular | Local and regional press |
| 41–60 | Top-Division Starter | National media |
| 61–80 | League Star | Household name, sponsor favourite |
| 81–100 | Global Icon | International megastar |

## What actually raises fame

### Transfers
Moving to a major league is the fastest single jump available. A move to England or Spain is worth substantially more than a move elsewhere.

### Individual awards
Direct payouts, tiered by prestige:

| Award | Fame |
|---|---|
| Ballon d'Or, FIFA The Best, UEFA Player of the Year, Golden Boy | **+3** |
| World Cup / EURO Player of the Tournament, Champions League MVP, European Golden Shoe, Yashin Trophy | **+2** |
| Continental top scorer, World Top XI, league MVP, league top scorer or assister, golden glove, young player, international medals | **+1** |

### Team trophies
Champions League **+3**, league title **+2**, domestic cup **+1**.

There is a **season cap of 10** on total award-and-trophy fame. Awards and trophies share the same bucket, so a single incredible season cannot vault you from unknown to icon.

## Media Resilience — fame armour you can buy

Resilience runs 0–**40** and is computed from what you currently own plus your lifetime honours:

| What you have | Resilience |
|---|---|
| Private jet or luxury yacht | **+12** |
| Hypercar, villa, Bosphorus villa, luxury villa | **+8** |
| Sports car, luxury SUV, luxury condo | **+4** |
| Any business | **+5** |
| Any other house or vehicle | **+2** |
| Ballon d'Or-tier award or season MVP | **+8** |
| Top scorer in a top division | **+3** |

**It is symmetrical.** Resilience is recomputed from what you currently own, so **selling the yacht immediately removes its +12.** You cannot buy the armour, bank the benefit, and cash out.

## The league fame cap — why your fame drops when you move

Every league imposes a ceiling on how famous you can be while playing in it:

```
cap = country media exposure × tier multiplier + 15
```

Tier multipliers:

| Tier | Multiplier |
|---|---|
| Top division (and all five regional super leagues) | **1.0** |
| Second division | 0.75 |
| Third division | 0.55 |
| Fourth division | 0.40 |
| Fifth division / amateur | 0.25 |
| Academy | **0.15** |

Worked examples: the **Premier League caps at 99**. The **Turkish Süper Lig caps at 75**. The **Turkish TFF 1. Lig caps at 60**.

### What happens when you drop below your cap

```
retention = min(0.90, 0.60 + resilience × 0.015)
new fame  = cap + (current fame − cap) × retention
```

- **With zero resilience, you keep 60%** of the fame above the new cap.
- **At maximum resilience (40), you keep 90%.**

This is the mechanic that makes the lifestyle system matter. Taking the money and dropping to a smaller league costs you far less star power if you own the jet and the villa. That is a real, quantified version of a real football phenomenon.

## Fame erosion — and how to stop it completely

Playing in a low-visibility league erodes fame at each season's end:

```
annual decay = max(0, 2.0 − resilience × 0.08)
```

**At resilience 25 or above, annual erosion is exactly zero.** A Ballon d'Or winner with a villa and a business simply does not fade, no matter how small the league.

## Free agency is a guaranteed loss

Ending a season unsigned costs you, and it compounds:

| Free agent for | Fame lost |
|---|---|
| Year 1 | **−3** |
| Year 2 | **−7** |
| Year 3+ | **−12 per year** |

Resilience buffers it, but **you always lose at least 1 point** no matter how rich you are.

When you sign again you recover part of what you lost — but the recovery rate is **capped at 0.75**. That cap is the point: you can **never** recover 100% of lost fame. Sitting out a year to boost your free-agent transfer visibility is mathematically guaranteed to be a net loss. There is no way to farm it.

## The strategy

- **Do not measure fame by your goals.** They are worth zero. Measure it by moves, trophies and awards.
- **Buy resilience before you need it.** The jet at +12 is not a vanity purchase — it is the difference between keeping 60% and 90% of your fame when you drop down.
- **Get to resilience 25 and your fame stops eroding entirely.** That is one villa plus one Ballon d'Or-tier award, or a jet plus a business plus a car.
- **Do not sell the assets to fund something else** unless you accept losing the armour at the same moment.
- **Never sit out a season deliberately.** The recovery cap makes it a provable loss.
- **Check the cap before you transfer.** Moving from a top division to a second division does not just slow your fame — it retroactively cuts what you already have.

## FAQ

### Why doesn't scoring goals increase my fame in My Legacy?
By design. `mediaPopularity` models career star power rather than match performance, so goals, hat-tricks and man-of-the-match awards give zero fame. Fame comes from transfers, major team trophies, global individual awards and luxury lifestyle assets.

### How do I become a global icon in My Legacy?
You need fame 81+. That requires moves to high-exposure leagues (England and Spain are the highest), major trophies and Ballon d'Or-tier individual awards, and a league whose cap allows it — the Premier League caps at 99, the Turkish Süper Lig at 75.

### What is Media Resilience in My Legacy?
A 0–40 stat computed from the luxury assets you currently own plus your lifetime honours. It determines how much fame you keep when you move to a lower-capped league, and how fast fame erodes each season. At 25 or above, erosion stops entirely.

### Does buying a private jet actually do anything?
Yes — it gives +12 Media Resilience, the joint-highest single source in the game. That changes your fame retention from 60% up toward 90% when you drop leagues. Selling it removes the bonus immediately.

### Why did my fame drop after I transferred?
You moved to a league with a lower fame cap. Your fame is reduced toward that cap, and how much you keep above it depends on your Media Resilience — 60% with none, up to 90% at maximum.

### Should I become a free agent in My Legacy?
Not deliberately. Free agency costs 3 fame in the first year, 7 in the second and 12 per year after that, and the recovery rate when you sign again is capped at 0.75 — so you can never get all of it back. It is a guaranteed net loss.
